ABOUT THE ROLE
Loyola Press is seeking a skilled Web Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a background in PHP 7+, JavaScript, WordPress and MySQL, a solid knowledge of internet applications, web design, Linux operating system, as well as some knowledge of cloud computing platforms, preferably AWS, to support the implementation of web sites.
This individual will be responsible for the design, development, security, support, and maintenance of all web-based applications, infrastructure, and tools for both end users and customers. The role operates under the guidance of the Web Development Manager with general supervision and will be best supported by a candidate that is collaborative, self-motivated, organized and able to perform in both a proactive and reactive manner and in accordance with our Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Staying abreast of industry standards and best practices is expected.
This role also participates in the support of our websites. Support hours may extend beyond the normal business hours and in some cases, the individual may also adjust work hours to perform maintenance tasks at times least impactful to customers.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE
- Develop new and update existing web applications in collaboration with marketing and product development teams.
- Maintain assigned web applications, including but not limited to blogs, web integration components, mobile applications, web databases, APIs, and applications created by the Web Development team through regular updates and patching according to department procedures.
- Proactively identify opportunities for improvements in web applications, whether UI, UX, security, or other areas, and recommend possible solutions.
- Assist in the management of internal and external web server(s) infrastructure in accordance with best practices.
- Develop and maintain documentation for all tools, processes, and applications in accordance with department policies.
- Assist in securing Loyola Press’s data, web sites, web servers, and applications through regular patching and updating according to organization and industry standards.
- Respond to assigned Helpdesk tickets for customer facing web applications and internal tools.
- Support and monitor our APPS written in Unity and pushed to both Google Play and the APP store.
- Provide recommendations or updates to websites and/or policies for GDPR compliance.
- Other projects and tasks as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND TECHNICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent experience.
- Working knowledge of Linux and Apache.
- Proficient knowledge of PHP and JavaScript (Node.js).
- Proficient knowledge of HTML and CSS.
- Proficiency in working with relational databases (MySQL, MSSQL).
- 1-3 years of experience with web servers and cloud-based computing, preferably AWS.
- 1-3 years of experience managing a CMS (CraftCMS preferred).
- 1-3 years of experience with version control software, preferably Git.
- Working knowledge of DNS (A records, CNAMES, etc.).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Self-motivated and project oriented.
DESIRABLES
- Strong skills creating API based integrations.
- Experience with search engines like Hawksearch.
- Knowledge of GDRP regulations and compliance strategies.
- Proficiency in working with WordPress.
- Experience creating and maintaining mobile apps through Unity and Solar2D.
- Experience with Google Play Console and App Store Connect to push APPS.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Starting salary: $70,000.00-$94,000.00
